Room Review at Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island

My family of 5 visited the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island at the end of 2024 for a New Year’s escape. We booked two rooms with a combination of Marriott points and free night certificates. You can read all about how much this stay cost us here.

We booked one King Coastal View room for myself and my husband and one 2-Queen Coastal View room for our three children ages 7,5,5. I contacted guest services ahead of our stay to request connecting rooms. The Ritz does offer an option to purchase guaranteed connecting rooms but I took my chances with a polite email first. I reached out to rc.jaxam.guestrec@ritzcarlton.com and was very pleased with their prompt reply and their willingness to fulfill my request.

Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a complimentary glass of champage and there was spa water available as well. As we arrived in the late afternoon, our rooms were ready right away. The standard rooms here are 410 square feet and have a decent sized balcony fitted with two chairs and a small table. The king room comes with a queen size pull out sofa which we did not use as a sleeping surface for this trip but a family of 3 or 4 certainly could. The bathrooms here are generously sized and the toilet has a door, offering privacy. The resort underwent an extensive renovation in 2021 and the rooms were modern, elegant, and in great condition.

As a person who likes to stay neat and organized while on vacation, I really appreciated the ample and well thought out storage spaces. In particular, the space under the tv stand perfectly fit all of our children’s carry-on suitcases and the upper shelf was used to store their packing cubes so they could easily access them to get dressed and change into pajamas, etc. The suitcases we use for our kids are the Rockland Melbourne Hard Case Spinners in 20”. The kids were able to manage them well in the airport, my husband and I were able to manage them down the aisle in addition to our own, and they stored well in the overhead bin space. We have been very pleased with these and felt they were reasonably priced.

The closets were a bit on the small side but I did appreciate the drawers and shoe storage pictured above and there were plenty of hangers available for our needs. I also brought my trusty travel steamer along with me and there was a nice shelf above the hanging bar where I could stash it. Each closet contained two bathrobes as well. The beds in the Queen room had clever under bed storage that was large enough to fit a suitcase. I appreciated that the remainder of space under the bed was closed off. It was one less place to search for potentially missing items.

The bathrooms here were spacious and the double sink vanities made for easier mornings and evenings. The King Room only had a shower but the Queen Room did have a bathtub which the kids enjoyed using and we loved to have so we give an option of shower or bath. Choices make for happier kids in this household! I neglected to take a photo of the bath in the Queen Room but it was pretty standard and certainly fine enough for my kids.

Although we did not partake of the mini bar, we did make use of the small but important empty refrigerator space. This was a perfect place to store water, seltzer, adult beverages, and was able to fit some leftover pizza as well. I recommend picking up some Ziploc bags along the way if you think you may need to store leftovers becuase a pizza box certainly won’t fit and even the standard styrofoam take home boxes were a tight squeeze.

We received housekeeping each day and an attempt at turndown each evening but this was offered quite late in the day! We came to expect a knock on the door at about 8pm, we would explain that we were in for the night so no turndown was needed and asked them to kindly skip knocking on the next door as our children were asleep. They always asked if there was anything we would like from the cart so I would get to replenish our bottled water this way which was lovely. One night we were out a bit later than turndown so we got the little chocolate squares much to my kids’ delight. All in all, we had a wonderful stay here and were very pleased with both rooms.
